JUJUTSU was the first Japanese Martial Art to reach the western world, already at the end of the 19th century - before some of the other arts were created.         Modern jujutsu is a combination of several Japanese arts: punches and kicks like in karate, throws and holds like in judo, pinning techniques like in aikido.     Competition is done in kata-style pair programs as well as fighting. In both forms, the whole arsenal of jujutsu techniques is used - kicks and punches at a distance, throws in clinch, and wrestling on the floor.   Jujutsu practicioners dress in both judo style and karate style keikogi. The great variety of techniques in this sport puts a multitude of demands on the attire.       In fights, protective gear similar to that of karate is used.
